Rug protectors - Aluminum oxide finished hardwood

Hello,

I just bought 3/4" solid hardwood birch flooring that has an aluminum oxide finish. The floors are going in next week and I have already bought several rugs (which I thought was the hard part) - Now looking at rug pads, I'm completely confused. What is the best type of rug protector (that goes under rug) for my type of flooring?

I called the mfg. of my floor but the guy who answered didn't know anything (kind of scary...)

I have read that the cheap off white non slip protectors can stain hardwood or even leave indentions from the pattern of the rug protector. I have also read rubber can cause problems too. Felt pads seem to be the safest but they are just to add comfort I need something that will reduce sliding too because Ill have runners.

Someone please help me. Please confirm what type of rug protectors are safe for hardwoods that have the aluminum oxide finish.

Thank you.
