what to put on cement floor to make it smooth enough to clean?

HI!
I have a rough cement floor in my basement - want to make it smooth enough to clean to make it into a laundry room.
I put Rustoleum epoxy basement covering on it...it looks beautiful - but it is still rough and has fiblerglass hairs sticking out of it from the cement. I did not know that some cement has fiberglass in it k- know i know. :-)
Any ideas on how to fix this?...without having to do re-do it? I thought I prepped the floor like they said on the instructions.
Would Rustoleum's clear coat fix it?....it's $ 100 a gallon. It's only a 10x10 room - can i use something else that comes in a smaller can?

You need to hire someone to come in and sand it down, and then polish it. Even then, fiber reinforced concrete won't really be that smooth. Your best bet would have been to put down vinyl or tile, but at this point, tile is out until the slab has all of the paint sanded off. That would leave vinyl. There are several new vinyl plank style tiles that are easy to DIY and have a glue lap or even locking method that will make them waterproof. All will be a lot easier to clean than what you've currently got. And they will all be cheaper than the pro doing the sanding job.

Re: sanding. From the Rustoleum folks:

Q: Can EPOXY SHIELD be applied over fiberglass reinforced concrete?
A: Yes. Fibers should be burned with caution! Do not sand as fibers can create wicking for moisture.

You should be forewarned when using vinyl planks on basement floors that there are potential problems. See the last three posts in this GW thread.
