cleaning adhesive off sheet vinyl

Yesterday I helped a friend repair her old kitchen sheet vinyl where the seam was coming apart. Method used:
1. clean out debris from crack with shop vac.
2. put adhesive under bowing-up flooring on either side of crack.
3. use heat gun to soften vinyl and get it to lay flat
4. while vinyl was hot/soft, use trowel to press down and remove excess adhesive.
5. wipe floor with wet rag to get excess adhesive off (meanwhile the floor's starting to harden back up and curl again)
6. lay a piece of plywood over the length of the repaired seam and weigh it down with milk jugs and paint cans.

So now it's drying and hopefully sealing. What I expect/fear is that when I go back to remove the boards, it'll be flat, but the plywood may be sticking to the seam (it didn't close completely/invisibly) and that there will be residual adhesive on the floor that I didn't get wiped off despite my best efforts.

If I find that this is true, what's the best remedy? I got a fair amount of adhesive on my hands that took quite a bit of scrubbing with Dawn to remove.
