After agonizing over kitchen, breakfast, sitting room flooring, Im still leaning towards cork. I have a bad back and hip joint issues. My MIL put tile in her kitchen a few years back (vinyl before) and she always complains that her knees and back are killing her. I think its the tile, she thinks its age. My concern is, for all the researching that I have done, it appears as though glue-on cork tile do not need special underlayment. Is this true? I have ordered samples from AmCork and have subjected those samples to my cooking habits including immersing it in water for an extended time. I am happy with the way they have held up. But they seem flimsy and not very durable to walk/stand on. Hence my question regarding further underlayment. I dont want to feel like Im walking on mattress, but I cant afford to have the aches and pains with 3 little ones to chase after.

As far as installation of the cork is concerned...whatever the manufacturer recommends regarding substrate is what you want to use. Also, there are no substitutes regarding adhesive. Most manufacturers recommend contact adhesive for the tile installation. You cannot substitute another adhesive for the one the manufacturer says you have to use.
