Smell coming up through cracks in hardwood

We had our oak hardwood floors professionally refinished 4 months ago (minwax dark walnut with 3 coats of poly)

The smell went about a week after they were done. 4 months in now, with the heating coming on the floors have moved and cracks have appeared here and there.We noticed a strong chemical smell coming through those cracks. It's horrible. How can I get rid of it? Why did this happen? Is it poly that has dripped down there and not been ventilated?

Yes, it is likely it is the polyurethane and more so the minwax stain that has not entirely flashed off. The boards have naturally separated and now the chemicals are continuing to flash off.

What can I do about it? Will throwing baking soda in the cracks help?

Nothing you can do but wait for the chemicals to completely leave. In the meantime, you can place a cut orange in a small plate and allow the fumes from the orange mask the offending odor from the chemicals.

This is so helpful!!! We are having this problem and I seriously thought I was losing my mind. Good to know it will slowly go away!
