Underlayment (padding) options for laminate...

Hello!

We've finally chosen the laminate-maker — Wilsonart. Unfortunately, the only site that carries the model we want, does not carry Wilsonart's brand of padding. All they offer are some no-name choices.

My (much) better third insists, that she wants everything to be from the same brand, while I can't see, what's the big deal about underlayment and would happily take whatever is available on the same site.

Is the choice of padding really that important? The floor in question is in the basement (no need for sound-insulation), on a very thick layer of concrete (no moisture from below, really, although the air above could be humid).

Thanks for any advice!

most basic pad is just that a very thin pad which I feel is pretty generic. For basements there are moisture barrier pads with vinyl on one side to stop any moisture from penetrating. Upgrade pads are often offered with sound deadening qualities. I've sold different brands of laminate and most use a 'generic' pad so I don't think thats a big issue. You might ask a retailer or installer if Wilsonart's basic pad is anything different.
