heart pine patina-show me?

Posted by heidia (My Page) on

I would love to get an unfinished oil rubbed heart pine in the house. I do not want a super shiny floor that will just look scratched after a week with my 5 boys. :/ I have always loved the look of old wood-wood in factories, old antique stores, reclaimed wood, and so on. BUT, that wood is 100+ years old...I wonder what a soft wood patina looks like after a few years? Anyone care to indulge me? :)

RE: heart pine patina-show me?

We had heart pine flooring in our last house and it was beautiful! It did have a low sheen poly coating on it though... not unfinished. I would be worried about splinters if the wood was not finished and I had 5 boys running around in socks or bare feet.

Another possibility that you could explore is using tung oil on the floor to give it some protection but not end up shiny.
