Floortech, do all carpets have a performance rating?

The salesman at ProSource really wants me to buy Shaw, both in wood and carpet. I don't know if that is because of commission or if it's just better.

He says to look at the performance rating of the carpet rather than the weight. True or false? And how do you find the density of a carpet? We're only putting carpet in the bedrooms.

We're going to put our house on the market when we finish our current remodel so I don't want to put an expensive carpet in. But I don't want builder grade either. Something that will look good for at least 3-5 years until the new owners have a chance to settle in and start making the house their own. I like the flecked carpet but for selling, I think a solid color will make the house show better. We have the flecked now.
