Sealing quarry tile?

We're in the process of having our kitchen floor tiled in Daltec Red Blaze quarry tile. I'm getting confused as to the proper way to seal them. Their site has info on sealing all their tile except the quarry. I understand it should be sealed before grouting to keep the grout from being absorbed and creating a haze. Makes sense, but with what? One store sold me a standard water based stone sealer. Then the contractor said it should be a penetrating sealer, that the water based just sits on top. He actually wants me to separately seal each tile prior to installation to prevent any adhesive getting on them (considered it, but not gonna happen). The contractor isn't a tiler, so I don't trust his info, I haven't spoken to the tiler, and the contractor couldn't reach him. For a product that's been around for generations, it seems there would be a consensus on how best to seal it, but I'm reading very conflicting info on-line. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
