Reusing prefinished flooring - removing staples

I found about 250 sq. ft. of red oak hardwood flooring that someon pulled up and gave away (I don't know why). I'd like to reuse it, but I've never done any flooring.

The first problem is that it's full of staples. I've been grinding them off with a grinder, but that's taking an eternity.

The second problem is the finish. Can I sand it off? Do I need a planer or jointer?

Also, the pieces don't fit together great. The will fit, but you have to really press them. Is it supposed to be like that?

Thanks. Ed
