Heart set on Dark Floors with 8' ceilings

Hi - We are getting 2 1/4 inch white oak floors installed along with a medium cinnamon toned maple kitchen. I really have my heart set on dark wood floors but I am concerned that my low ceiling will make the whole place look small. We have ok light but it isnt a super large home. Any ideas, feedback or pics? We would pretty much have to go natural if we dont go super dark to get enough contrast with the cabinets. I would love to see some pics of dark stained floors.

I came over here looking for advice too. I picked out a dark walnut for our new bedroom that has 8" ceilings. Our new addition is really large though( 24 x 24) so I'm hoping the dark color wont matter.

This is really a matter of preference. We have an old house that we have been remodeling. Our living room and dining room have 8' ceilings and we had hardwood floors with a dark stain. We refinished the floors and used a golden oak stain. (Our living room is about 15 x 20.)

I have to say that the floors looked lifeless to me when they were so dark. I love the lighter color and would never consider going back to a darker stain.

Like I said it is a matter of preference. And remember when the furniture is in the room, the impact of a darker floor may not be as dramatic as you fear.

Good Luck with whatever you choose.

Adding to Jennu's comments, dark hardwood floors show every spec of dust, but the dark trend is what's hot now. Try the link below using Google image search. A few dark floors popped up.

Here is a link that might be useful: Google Dark Stained Floors
