baseboard suggestions for mid century modern ranch

I'm currently remodeling a mid century home and hoping to move in soon. One of the toughest decisions is choosing new baseboards. It seems that the trend for a modern home is to use a straight, non decorative board. While researching, a lot of people regretted the decision and said that it's a dust magnet.
The original baseboards were beveled and about 3" tall. I wanted something around 5"-6". A few carpenters recommended this option.

It's not too ornate, but I'm not completely sold. Sometimes I wonder if I'm over thinking it when I see a picture like this.

It still looks great and contemporary, but not true to the mid century style. We're retiled the bathroom with marble and got European style kitchen cabinets, so its not like we're preserving the mid century elements completely.

I'm graphic designer here, so these things bother me probably more than they should. Your thoughts? Should I go with the flat baseboards?
