What does the box say?

The only marking on the box is what you see in this picture (the measurements).

What angle would be most beneficial for identification?

Doesn't look like either, it looks like solid wood. The grain goes all the way through and the bottom is grooved which I have never seen on engineered or a laminate.

A laminate is a picture only. It is very thin. Engineered wood is real wood with a thin layer of the desired wood on top. I have to say it sure looks like solid wood to me.

Hopefully this picture will help. I agree it seems the grain runs throughout, except for there does seem to be a thin differing layer atop.

I would also agree that it's solid wood with a varnish or coating of some sort on the top which makes it appear to be a separate layer. Even if you look at the grain on the side, it continues through the top. My vote is for solid. Take a plank to an installer or someone who works with wood. They should be able to tell you in 30 seconds.
