Flooring so treadmill won't be too loud

I have a lanai or porch which currently just has the bare concrete floor. I want to put a treadmill out there, but I'm concerned about the sound being amplified. The lanai or porch is enclosed. Currently we don't have anything out there and whenever you speak or make a noise it is so loud because there is nothing there to absorb the sound. I was wondering what to put on the floor. We use the room as an air conditioned space for the dogs when we are gone. They run in and out through a doggie door. The room isn't big enough to hold much. We will be putting a big treadmill out there and a small cabinet, and a small tv. Anyone have experience or suggestions? My husband suggested tile or sheet vinyl, but I was concerned that the sounds would still be amplified. I don't know though. I always thought fabric was what kept your hous from having that hollow empty sound, but we don't plan on having any furniture or curtains out there. Anyone have any experiences to share?

I did a search for you for a gym floor thinking they must have special floors or mats to lessen the noise. I found this great site that is a jump start to help you.

The sound absorbing flooring underneath the treadmill is usually put down so that your neighbors below don't complain too much (ahh, the joys of apt living). Since your porch is enclosed, you also have to focus on the walls and ceiling. If the room is empty and walls are concrete/sheetrock, the sound bounces around too much so you have to put sound reducing materials on the walls, floor and ceiling. There are website that sell acoustic foam and tiles that help absorb sound.

We have a treadmill upstairs in a carpeted room, but got some big thick black rubber mats with perforations at Home Depot and laid them all under it. They are fairly attractive for what they are.

Do you have to keep the floor bare because of the dogs and potential 'accidents'? Otherwise, could you put an inoffensive outdoor carpet down?

We got some of that acoustical material online in our last house for a sleeping room that we wanted to keep real quiet during neighborhood parties, and frankly it didn't work worth beans. Maybe we didn't install it correctly, or maybe it wasn't good material. I'd be very careful to make sure you're getting the genuine thing.
