I have home built in the mid-60's. There is hardwood in all the upstairs bedrooms and hallway. We have assumed that the ground floor has hardwood too, however, we've pulled up the carpet and checked to find at lest three layers of plywood. Is that normal to have that much plywood? Does anybody think that further exploration might reveal hardwood under there? Any help would be awesome!

A lot depends on the height of the other floors on that level. Is 3 layers extreme? Maybe. Are all three plywood or is one layer particle board?
What is the thickness of each layer?
Your probably not going to find hardwood. Sometimes they would just lay carpet and pad over the hardwood but very rarely in my experience would i see someone put plywood ontop on hardwood for carpet. Edpecially in the age of home you have.
