New white oak floors - Worth it to replace entire floor?

Hello floor gurus,

We're adding white oak floors to our kitchen, which will now be open to the dining room, which already has 40 year old white oak floors.

Our GC is worried that the new wood, which will be pieced in with the old - and then the entire space will be sanded/stained/finished - will be different enough in color that it won't look good. We'll be going with a natural stain.

Is this a significant concern? Will it be really obvious that the floors don't match?

Any advice based on experience would be greatly appreciated. We don't want to shell out the extra $$ unnecessarily. Thanks!
