We were recently lamenting our house didn't have a central vac and we just installed hardwood. I've been looking for a high capacity vac for hardwood - (dust and dog hair)

Someone suggested getting a very big industrial sized dust mop with a few extra washable mop ends. Made a lot of sense to me!

We had a central vac system before though and nothing beats it for getting the dust and stuff OUT of the house - where it belongs - and not having to empty a teacup sized bin multiple times with each use.

You may need something larger, but I love my Bissell Power Edge Pet that I bought for $49.99 last year. It is a corded small vac & picks up dust, stones & pet hair like a champ. It has rubber fins instead of a brush. I did not want to use my fantastic Sebo X4, as the rotating brush could scratch the floor. I use my Bissell everyday on about 99 sq. ft. of bare floor (tile & wood). I use a dust mop at times for the baseboards & edges, but in my opinion a mop doesn't get it all & you still need a vacuum to get up what you mopped together.
