How to remove primer off of hardwood?

Hi, I'm posting the following question from my husband:

We just had our hardwood finished with one coat of poly.

Today we noticed that some primer had dropped on various areas. We were able to scrape off most of the primer but there are patches where the wood is particularly grainy and the primer sits in the grain.

Does anybody know how we can safely remove it before the second coat of poly is put on this Tuesday?

How about these options?

1) Try putting left-over stain on the primer to hide it.

2) Sand off and then stain those areas again... but would the colour still be consistent?

Any help would be appreciated.
