Using reclaimed wood?

We have standard red oak flooring in our 1950's ranch house. We are adding about 600 sqft and would like to continue the same flooring. In our area there are many houses being razed and many are offering their old floors for great prices (like $1.00sqft) but I am wondering what the risk is in getting those planks. Any experience on what to look for? We are in the SF Bay area - and would appreciate any recommendations on flooring contractors that can help us with this.

The main advantage of using reclaimed red oak flooring from a house close to the age of yours is that you can most likely get a close match in grade, sawing and even manufacturer.

Find someone who has experience working with reclaimed flooring. We're out there...maybe not many of us, but we do exist.
