Tile and wood in the same room

Has anyone seen or have tile and wood in the same room?

My house has an open concept floor plan. Kitchen and dining room are all in the same room. I was thinking maybe i can put wood in the dining room and somehow at a point put tile in the kitchen. My husband said it would not look right.

Would appreciate the help>

It does and can work with tile and real hardwood. It would look like tile Infront of fireplace with hardwood example.

You will have to find out what you have for joists, subfloor now.
