Konecto/Allure Install Sunday--any tips?

| I will be installing Allure vinyl flooring planks in our "new" laundry room on Sunday, 8/19/2007. This was formerly a large closet that we're converting to a laundry room.
Our room is, essentially, 75" by 85" (or 6'3" by 7' 1".) Any advice? I bought an extra box of Allure...just to be on the safe side. I'd already planned to "batch" the boxes...I do it with paint, I figured it only made sense to do it with flooring.
I posted much of this query in the "Konecto 25 yr waranty=1 yr warranty if bought online!" thread--but thought I should probably post it as it's own thread. I'd love to hear how one makes splines for Allure. I plan on graphing it out before I start...anything else I should do? I was thinking of dry-laying it...but can't figure out how I would do that with the contact cement aspect of the strips.
Any advice/help is appreciated. I have a feeling I'll be doing this on my own...DH and I can't even PAINT together...let alone lay a floor together. ;~) Besides, the room is too small for two people to work in together.
We are off to take The Boy to college this afternoon...so I shan't be able to reply to any questions before tomorrow morning.
I promise to post pics when I am finished.
Thanks in advance!

| Well, we managed to get it done without any advice...and only minimal use of bad words. And NO fighting. A miracle in and of itself, if you've ever tried to do something like this with your spouse. DH measured and cut--I installed. Here it is halfway through:
And finished:
We worked out of two boxes simultaneously to keep it random. Took 2.5boxes total...with some waste. If we'd known what we were doing we could've done it in two boxes. I'm pretty pleased with the results. Now, let's see how it wears! Perhaps I've solved my basement flooring conundrum. melanie |

| So you used the Allure? It is made in China, according to the boxes at HD. I visited a dealer who had huge display of Konecto, but no inventory. Did not know the country of origin. The Konecto website has no contact or address information, a bit unusual. The Konecto does have a protective strip on the adhesive band that must be pulled off by the installer. I like that idea, but it would slow installation. I do not know if Allure has that strip, but the loose samples at HD do not. The dealer said he had three quality levels of Konecto, at $2.39, $2.69 and $3.39, cash and carry, special order. He said Konecto would soon be offering a ceramic tile look for something over $4.00 per square foot. The local HD now has three colors of Allure priced at $1.69 per square foot. So I still do not know if Allure and Konecto are really the same product. If so, the names used for the colors is different. Hope someone has additional information to offer. |

| Allure doesn't have the strip--it would be nice to HAVE the strip...then I could have "dry laid" the floor. I need to do the rest of the basement...I plan on using Konecto when I do. I want a higher grade surface. (The wear layer on the HD stuff seems a little thin...some minor marring (invisible unless you know where to look) occurred when my contractor put the baseboards and shoe mold up. |
