Must stairs and floor exactly match?

We are planning to use Shaw Piedmont Park red oak for our floors. It is somewhat distressed. We don't think we can get the stair treads in the same wood. Is it okay to use red oak stained the same color but not distressed?

I have hickory on the floor and Pine on the stairs. My builder did the stairs in pine without asking I actually thougth they were going to be hickory, but they look fine..
