| We're planning to use a dark stained alder kitchen with white trim in our new house, and we cannot decide which flooring to go with.
My wife likes a Schon floor from lumber liquidators. This is an engineered floor in an Acacia finish. I'm afraid of the room getting too dark with this selection and I have not heard many good reviews for Lumber Liquidators. I'm leaning towards a Natural Hickory floor from Ua Flooring. This is also an engineered floor. I cannot seem to find any reviews on Ua floors so I'm unsure of the quality. I also dont want the floor to get too busy. What would look better with the darker cabinets?

| First of all, Hickory and Acacia should both go well with darker cabinets. Hickory might have a better contract to me. UA is a good brand. They have some very entry level 3/8' thick products and some pretty cool stuffs like 'Olde Charleston line'. Brazilian Amendoim can be a good choice. I send a link to some installed pics. | We have decided on the Hickory flooring for the new house. The UA floor I was looking at is the thinner 3/8 substrate with 1/12 top layer (13/32 total). I could also go with a BellaWood 3/4" thick full hardwood hickory from Lumber Liquidators, but I do like the idea of an engineered floor. How does an engineered wood flooring line up with transitions to tile and carpet compared to the thicker hardwood flooring? I do like the look of that Brazilian Amendoim. Who makes a good engineered version of that? |

| I wonder how you plan to install your engineered choise, staple, glue or float? The installation method will make the choice of moldings differently. You may surely transit from 3/4" solid to tile or carpet by using a threshold. Here is that molding in the link. |
