New thinset over old thinset for porcelain tile floor

Qrious

We had new porcelain tile floor laid a couple of days ago and unfortunately, it was not laid on straight (not parallel to the walls). Through God's good grace, contractor agreed to lay it down again, take the financial hit, and redo the floor. However, he's saying he won't scrape the old (as of a couple days ago) thinset (mortar) off; he'll just lay a thin layer of new over the old and that it will be fine. Since I don't really know anything about laying down floor, I'd thought I'd ask the question here hoping someone can tell me if this will work or not. We don't want the floor higher then it originally was going to be, and understand that it may be off a bit. But is laying new thinset over old going to work? Thank you for your answers!
