light warm brown stain for red oak floor

I would like a light (maybe medium) stain for the flooring. The flooring is #1 common red oak. I also don't want the grain to stand out. I don't think my guy is very familiar with water popping to minimize the grain look because when I asked him about it, he said that water popping would make the grain show more. When I told him that I want to stain the floors with a brown "just enough to take out the yellow color" he said that he adds a little bit of stain to the polyurethane. Can anyone advise on if this an advisable solution to making the floors a "near natural" color but without the yellow?

Thanks!
