Hardwood Floors

Hi. This is my first time posting in Garden web.
We are looking into hardwood floors. We'd like a color that's not too dark and not too light. Any suggestions on hardwoods? brands? I'm a little overwhelmed by all the different kinds of woods that are out there. We have 2 young kids, so I'd need a wood that's durable and can handle the kids. Thanks in advance.

I'd probably recommend oak, in a medium stain. And have it finished with Bona Traffic for excellent durability.
