We had a tenant that put ceramic tile over an old Amtico vinyl floor. I called Amtico and they could not tell me if that particular tile contained asbestos as it was over 40 years ago at the time. If we remove the ceramic tile to replace with new ones, will that release asbestos into the air if it's within the tiles? What I'm really asking is should I expect the removing the ceramic tile to break and pull up the vinyl tile under it. I assume it was laid with wire mesh on top of the vinyl tile.

BTW, we had the 12 x 12 off white vinyl tile with tiny gold square metal flecks in it like glitter. Just lovely...LOL!
