How long does new carpet shed?

The house we god has newer carpet in it, and every time I vacuum it FILLS up the cannister. I have a dyson- if that matters. Will the vacuum still pick up as much dirt or is it going to be predominantly picking up fibers? How long will this go on? I have even tried vacuuming it over and over and over to get the bulk of the fibers off- emptying the can several times- but the fibers just keep on coming!

You've got two problems here. Problem number one is the quality of the carpet that the previous owners left you with. Good quality nylon carpet doesn't shed. Cheap polyester does. Problem number two is that Dysons aren't approved by any carpet manufacturer for carpet vacuuming. The short term solution is to get another vacuum that is approved. THe long term solution would be to replace the carpet with a better quality material.
