Wood kitchen flooring to contrast or compliment other wood floor

We have an old home(part 1870 and part 1930) and have maple floors we have not had refinished since we moved in 26 years ago with 4 small children and a number of golden retrievers. This flooring (in the picture) is in the living room and dining room - which is adjacent to the kitchen with two doors- usually open- between the two rooms.

I really want to get a hardwood floor in the kitchen-
Should I look for a similar maple floor or should I go with a contrast since it is an old home and it would be hard to match. I was thinking of a dark color.

A good flooring professional will be able to install new wood, and then sand the old to refinish it and have it all match.
