Hardwood flooring on second floor

Hi,

I'm looking to install hardwood on my stairs as well as the entire upstairs. This includes the open hallway and 4 bedrooms. This will replace carpet.

I redid the entire first floor last year (white oak stained a medium to dark brown, site finished).

I'm wondering whether it's better to run the wood continuously into the rooms, or whether I should have a "separator" piece of wood turned 90 degrees at the room threshold.

I'm leaning towards having the room separator piece so that I can do the upstairs in 2 phases and not have to move all that furniture downstairs. I also think this may be helpful in terms of wanting to refinish part of the upstairs in the future. If we do it all as a continuous floor, I know they'd want to redo the entire second floor due to the change in sheen/etc.

Would one continuous floor look better, or does it not really matter.

Thanks!
