Damp hardwood after sanding floors

We recently started refinishing out oak floors with a drum sander. We got down the 60 grit and stopped for the night. When we woke up we noticed a dot of liquid in the center of the floor. This is the same area that had been damaged by what looked like pet stains. I sanded the wet spot away then thought to check the area with my moisture probe. The center of the room, 5 boards away from the dot of water, is "7" or 19% damp on a scale of 1 to 10 according to the meter. The board itself inches away from the water "dot" is 10 of 10, or 28% on the scale and pegs out the meter. The weird thing is there are no water pipes within 20 feet of this area. Could we be bringing up years and years of pet stains on an unfinished floor that had carpet on it? Is it possible termites could be 20 feet from the sill plate? In the basement the boards look darker than surrounding boards but I do not see any mud tubes.

Thanks in advance for any insight you may offer.
