Dog urine soaked areas of hardwood under laminate floor

We just had a tenant move out that destroyed my hardwood floors. There are black spots all over it. I don't smell anything but I was told it smells and will get worse as it get warmer. I will be putting laminate over them but will that contain the odor? If not, what has to be done to the spots to prevent a future odor problem. Thanks much!

Putting laminate over will not stop the smell. Eliminating the odor is a lot like getting rid of mold. You gotta fix the problem. Not just cover it up.

The stains have probably made its way to the subfloor. Only way for sure is to rip up and patch the stains.

You could try sanding and refinishing but its a 50 /50 chance that they will sand clean. But if it made its way to the subfloor theres no way just a new finish will stop the smell.

I agree. Also, most methods to seal in the odors does not work for long.

Rip out and replace. Subfloor too. That's the only sure fire cure if you want to get rid of the smell. The enzyme cleaners can help with a light issue, but they take a lot of time and a lot of soaking for the heavy issues. Much quicker to remove and replace.

Have a company ozone it and eliminate the odor.
