Engineered hardwood floor

Our son recently had a floating engineered hardwood floor installed in his basement over 6 mil plastic and a thin foam pad. In some areas the floor seems to deflect a bit when you walk over it. He asked us if it seems right. We don't have any experience with floating engineered hardwood. Any thoughts on what's acceptable before he tells his contractor it's okay?

You must level the floor to ~1/4" in a 10' radius to avoid deflection.

Cindy this is entirely possible in a floating application. The benefits for this installation are 1) its inexpensive, 2) it usually has a great moisture barrier underneath. The setbacks are, as woodfloorpro stated, if you don't have a very flat subfloor you will probably see a little movement as you walk over it and it won't sound as solid as if it were nailed or glued down. ~ Sam at realwoodfloors.com
