2 inch or 3 inch strips?

Should I choose 2 1/4 inch wide strips for our hardwood floors if it'll save me $3k? Or should splurge on the 3 inch?

I'm thinking 2 1/4 inch might look a little busy. On the other hand, that seems to be what they have in historical homes, so maybe it's more classic. My style is traditional. Thoughts?
