Is the Shaw solid or engineered?

I had hardwood installed many years ago in Virginia. Old School...sand, stain and poly. They cupped in the first summer, but I found that there was no moisture barrier on the ground underneath in the crawlspace. Fixed that, and when it got cooler, the cupping disappeared......

I have solid hickory 5" planks, and they got wavy the first spring. The flooring was installed in February. I also had the crawlspace redone, and had a LOT less cupping last summer. I still see a LITTLE bit, but it is not too bad.

I have this floor throughout the house, save 2 full baths, and the toilet area of another, and the laundry/mud room.

I would never install a floor in the northeast over 4" unless it's an engineered hardwood. And get the area moisture tested.

My experience with wide-width hardwood flooring in the Northeast is that it will move with seasonal changes. It may cup, crown, twist or shrink. It "may" do any of those things...or "may not" depending upon the environmental conditions both above and below the floor.

Moisture testing, as FLOORJOCKEY recommends, is my recommendation also.
