Stain color came out diff in two rooms

We are in the midst of having our floors redone. they're putting on the last two coats of poly in our kitchen and family room tomorrow.

The dining room, living room, stairs, and foyer have original 1928 red oak. The kitchen and family room are part of a new addition and have red oak floors, but from 1998.

The old floors came out great, however the newer floors looked different before they put the poly on. I was told they'd darken with the poly, but after one coat of poly they are still lighter. They're coming to do the last two coats tomorrow. I have a call in to the owner to see how we can remedy this.

They used golden brown from min wax (dura something).

Is this to be expected considering the different age of the floors? Should they have mixed stains to make the floors match?

Thanks
Sue
