So we had the floors of our old farmhouse refinished a couple of years ago, and the guy did a great job. Unfortunately he couldn't count on the inhabitants of the house (such as me), being neglectful. The floor has some scratches in the finish. Is there anything that can be done short of refinishing the entire floor?

Sure...a professional floor finisher can do a repair, if the identity of the original finish materials is known.

The last time I had an issue (someone walked on the varnish while it was drying), I went to the guy who did the flooring and he had to redo a whole section of floor. I was wondering if some spot repair was possible short of that.
