A big box store installed some Smart Step carpet padding from Mohawk last week under new carpet in my house. The padding was stained orange in places, I asked the installer about it and he said it it was "normal" and "oxidation from exposure to the air in storage." That hasn't sat well and since then I've become concerned that the padding is water damaged and at risk for mold. I called Mohawk and they said not to use such damaged sections. I'm mad at myself for not stopping the install (I paid $900 for the padding alone), and I'm considering having the store redo the padding. What do you all think? Also, if they have to pull the padding out, does the ruin the carpet (which was power stretched) as well? Thanks!
