Laminate to carpet transition

Hi, we'll have pattern carpet installed in the basement home theater this Friday. It's relatively thin because of the pattern but we upgraded padding to 8 lbs. The rest of the basement has 12mm thick floating laminate flooring on concrete. The guy who installed laminate put a reducer at the 5 ft wide doorway where laminate will meet carpet. The one side of the reducer covers the laminate and the other side touches the concrete floor. His idea is to start the carpet where that reducer stops. But the carpet guy told me that it'll be a more finished look if carpet is tucked underneath the transition moulding. I think that may be true if it's a thin piece of metal transition nailed directly to the concrete. Wouldn't laminate transition become loose on top of the soft carpet since it's only held in place by a plastic channel beneath it?
I still have some T-moulding left if that's a better way to transition. Not sure if both sides will be of similar thickness though.

Sometimes what they do is end the padding, have the carpet only (no pad, that is) over tack strip, then put the transition trim over the carpet/tack strip so that the tack strip helps support the trim if stepped on. I've done this using anodized aluminum transition with holes, using decorative screws to screw the strip down through the tack strip and into the subfloor. This is a robust install that way.

Your reducer is going to make a valley between the laminate and carpet transitions. Personally, I'd rather have a slightly high T transition between the two surfaces than a valley where dirt accumulates and the vacuum doesn't reach well without a crevice tool, especially if you have pets and pet hair!!. (They would probably curl the carpet edge around and under the tack strip then attach the tack strip down to the floor in this case, which adds EXTRA height to the carpet side of the transition.

The slightly high T transition also keeps the carpet isolated from dirty mop water when mopping the laminate.
