good looking, cheapish stone or stone-look flooring

I would like to replace the aging (in bad shape) wood floors in my Florida condo with a stone or stone-like porcelain floor. Because it is a large expanse, I would like to know about any tile that isnt too expensive, wont go out of style soon and has easyish upkeep. I am leaning towards a travertine or travertine-like porcelain, but wonder how long this trend will last. Any suggestions? Tx.

Cheap natural stone is very poor quality stone with lots of voids and poor fill material. Poor durability and lots of wastage. For travertine, you'd need to be in the $3-$5 square foot range to get decent quality. You can usually find a porcelain look alike for a bit less, and you won't have to seal it or fill any of the voids in it. However, you aren't going to get $1 flooring of any variety and have that be good quality. Unless it's a close out. And the quantity you need is more than a closeout quanitity.
