filling gaps in wood flooring

Our ranch has beautiful oak flooring installed in 1958. It looks great, for the most part. Before we got in, the floor was refinished with oil based coating. Now, after 3 year and after this brutal winter, I am noticing a lot of crevice along the edge of the flooring pieces. I am pretty sure they did not use any interlocking flooring planks in 1960.
My feeling is that because of those crevices, we loose lot of heat and with time they will gather up tons of dust and what not. So, is there a solution to this problem other than laying carpet?
