Adding wood floor to one room/flow with existing

My house was built in 1952 with hardwoods (maple) throughout, except for the kitchen, which has ceramic tile. We opened the wall between the kitchen and dining room, and now I want to put hardwoods in the kitchen so the two rooms flow. Any advice on how best to match the new wood to the old or if that's even possible? Should I try wood look tile instead? Another issue is that the kitchen floor sits a bit higher than the dining room floor, but I assume that's just because of the tile and other flooring beneath, that would be ripped up if we put in hardwoods. Subfloor, I believe, is pine. Thanks.

A skilled hardwood flooring person ought to be able to weave in the kitchen with the existing. Problem with doing that is you may have to sand it all up and finish it. If it would look OK...you could install a transition board between the old and the new and avoid a total resand. I've installed decorative border pieces as transitions and they looked fine.

Also, as you suggest, you could install a realistic-looking luxury vinyl tile plank.

Thanks. Having to sand/refinish to get it to match up is actually one if my concerns -- I think that would pretty much mean having to do the entire first floor since everything more or less flows. Whole house was done 10 years ago, possibly since the first time since the house was built. Don't really want to go through all that again.
