Hardwood floors - Oiled (and UV) is the future?

We've been researching new wood floors for a house we are buying. Nearly all of the wood people we talked to have said that oiled (and probably UV) wood floors are the future. That they are a much longer term product than polyurethane. They said that with the poly floors, any scratches or marks turn white and there isn't really anything you can do; with oiled floors, you just have to add a little oil to make them look great again.

I have to admit that I've seen poly floors after they've been in a few years (a family that had a dog and kids) and they looked horrible.

I do love the look of the oiled floors (and not so much the poly floors), but I still worry about the maintenance of having to oil every year or so. They do make it seem like it's not a huge deal, but it is obviously some maintenance. And I forgot to ask if you need to move everything to make sure those surfaces get oiled also (e.g. we have a piano, moving it to oil the floors would be an issue).
