removing subfloor from hardwood

CorIndu

We removed the subfloor from the hardwood in the kitchen but it had not only been screwed down but also glued down. Now we have to remove the paper that's been left and glue residue. I understand that soaking it for at least 15minutes with warm water, possibly Fantastik may help with lifting and scraping. But does anyone know if we could simply sand it. We're unsure whether we're dealing with asbestos.......the house is 1920 and we think this work may have been done in the '60s.

thank you,

corinne
