Waterlox over Garnet Shellac

I am finishing walnut floors. I have already put down a couple of coats of garnet shellac and am planning to top coat with Waterlox.

Can I get by with 1 coat of Waterlox satin finish (not sealer) over 3 coats of garnet shellac or will I need mutiple coats of Waterlox.

The waterlox is really just for a water barrier. I would have liked to just use shellac.

The shellac is fresh from flakes.

You've ruined any chance for the waterlox to really stick well. You're not dealing with compatible components. If you wanted a tint to the wood, that's what stain is for.

Actually, the waterlox will probably adhere better to my dewaxed shellac than it will to my character walnut since it will seal away the oils in the wood. The manufacturer recommends using a coat of shellac before applying waterlox on rosewood and other highly oily woods.

Anything adheres well to dewaxed shellac.

Probably 2 coats is optimal. Better chance of getting a decent wear layer. Please post a pic when it's done. I'd love to see rosewood + garnet shellac (I'm a user!) and waterlox.
