To restore or not old flooring?

Our home has been through 2 floods. (6/1972 & 9/2011) Our hardwood floor had to be completely removed. Lost about everything on first floor. Our old under floor is the original floor (Homes built in 1865 & 1895). The floor looks of course old, has trillions of nail marks and still some nails, seems soft of course cracks between boards and brittle. Our questions is do we take a chance and restore the old, sand, stain etc or because of dryness, age, easily marks and cracks, etc. go with new hardwood flooring. Our family is "split" on this decision. Can anyone give us pros and cons to help our final decision and peace in family...Thanks
