We are currently building a house and had been spec'd 3 inch red oak, which they will finish on site. We just inquired and were told that to upgrade to 5 inch would be an additional $1/sq ft. That seems excessive given the raw cost I am finding online? Does this seem appropriate? Any thoughts are appreciated!!! Thank you

Wider wood in the same grade always costs more since it is harder to find.

Sounds about right to me..3 inch vs 5 inch is quite a difference in cost.
