Rough cut, fir plank flooring?

Posted by dirtslinger2 (My Page) on

I'm looking for an alternate to expensive wooden floors that will likely get trashed around here anyways.

Looks like a local guy puts down 8" rough cut planks- countersinks screws in, filling the holes with wooden plugs. Then a coat with something to protect it. Douglas fir.

Wood comes from the local mill. It requires drying by heaters in the basement first.

Does this sounds like a good idea? I am looking for "rustic" and HOPING for a lower price than standard store bought wooden flooring.

The alternative is laminate, which I'd rather not do unless required.

Would appreciate any opinions on plank floors like this!

It isn't kiln dried? If by rustic you mean "will have big gaps between boards", then go for it. (I'm not being sarcastic, some people really like that look!) Rough cut is pretty rough, you won't want to walk around in socks. Also, what is he coating it with, and how much is he charging for everything?
