sand without removing character of old wood flooring?

Our new-to-us home had 100-year-old clear fir floors under the laminate. The floors had ugly paint on them, which I've spent incredible amounts of time and labor stripping on my hands and knees because I did not want to sand the paint off and have new-looking, flat boards. I *love* the ridgy texture they have from wear and use.

They need light sanding to smooth them, though, before I finish them. I've done this before in another house, using my palm sander, but it was a very tiny room. It's ~300sf in this house and I'd like to use something that doesn't require more time hunched over on the floor: is there a happy medium somewhere between the tiny palm sander and an aggressive drum sander?

Thanks!
