 o
commercial v. residential cork

My wife and I are in the final stages of planning our new build, and we're thinking that we'll likely do cork for the upstairs flooring. We're likely going to use the glue-down cork tiles. I've noticed that several manufacturers offer a commercial grade and a residential grade tile. The difference seems to be in the thickness of the tiles: commercial tiles are around 5/16" thick, and residential tiles are around 3/16". From what I've been able to gather, the commercial tiles are around $2-$3 per square foot more expensive. I'm tempted to use the commercial tiles because it seems like the added thickness would increase durability and sound attenuation.

Would using commercial tiles in a residential application be overkill? Are there potential disadvantages to using the commercial tiles other than cost that I'm overlooking?

Thanks!

Longevity would be increased not necessarily durability. Sound would be deadened more as you mentioned. Your call on the cost issue.
